Cookie Clicker

Cookie Clicker is an incremental idle game by Orteil and Opti. You start with a single cookie, click a giant one to make more, and spend the first batch on buildings that produce cookies automatically. From there, the bakery grows through upgrades and new production sources.

There is no character to guide or set of stages to finish. You manage production, weigh each cost, and decide when to buy, save, or expand. Clicking drives the early game, but once several buildings are running, automation handles most of the work. Timed clicks and well-chosen upgrades still speed things up. The rules are simple, while longer sessions give you plenty of decisions about how to grow the bakery.

Grow Cookie Production

Click the large cookie to earn your first cookies. Spend them on production buildings, whose automatic output will fund larger purchases. Early on, your goal is usually to get reliable automation. Cursors handle basic clicking; Grandmas and later buildings produce more, but cost more. Spending every cookie as soon as you have it can leave you short when an upgrade is within reach, especially one that improves several buildings at once.

As your bakery grows, compare each item’s cost with how many cookies it will produce over time. Seasonal effects, special bonuses, and temporary boosts can change the payoff. The building with the highest displayed output isn’t always the best buy: a cheaper one may pay for itself sooner, while an expensive one may become more valuable after an upgrade. Choose based on your current bakery, your available cookies, and how long you plan to leave the game running.

Watch your Cookies Per Second (CPS), which measures the bakery’s automatic cookie production without counting manual clicks. Use it to decide whether a building or upgrade is worth the cost. A purchase may add many cookies but still take too long to pay for itself. Compare its price with the increase in CPS and check whether another available upgrade offers better value.

Clicking gives you a quick burst, while CPS provides the steady income needed for longer sessions. Golden Cookie bonuses can temporarily increase production, so see how much they improve your output before choosing your next purchase. Small CPS differences matter early on; later, upgrades usually cost more and take longer to pay off.

Upgrade Your Bakery

  • Buy buildings: Cursors, Grandmas, and other buildings produce cookies automatically, even when you are not clicking. Each has its own price, output, and upgrades. Prices rise with each purchase, so compare the cost with the extra CPS. A lower-output building can still be worthwhile if it is cheap or an upgrade boosts many copies. Otherwise, save for a stronger purchase. Judge each building by how it improves your bakery as a whole.

Upgrades can improve clicking power, increase a specific building’s output, or raise total cookie production. Read each description carefully: some bonuses affect one part of the bakery, while others apply everywhere. Clicking upgrades are more valuable during active play, while building upgrades can help more during an idle session. Match the upgrade to how you are playing Cookie Clicker. Some expensive upgrades become worthwhile once you own several buildings; cheaper ones can speed up production early and make the next few minutes more productive.

Click Golden Cookies when they appear. They stay on screen for only a short time and can grant extra cookies, temporary bonuses, or a brief production boost. Keep an eye on the screen while buying buildings or upgrades, since a cookie may appear during menu management. A production bonus can also make a different purchase the best use of your cookies. During a multiplier, focus on collecting enough cookies for a building or upgrade that would normally take much longer.

  • Plan Ahead: The Grandmapocalypse and Ascension introduce choices that affect your long-term progress. The Grandmapocalypse adds new effects and risks to the bakery, while Ascension resets much of your progress in exchange for permanent bonuses. Before ascending, check what you will gain and whether the reset is worth it. Saving for a later milestone can make your next run much stronger, so there is no need to rush into every advanced system. Keep raising your CPS, learn how each feature works, and ascend when the timing suits your progress. A well-planned reset can make the next run much faster.

Controls

Use the mouse to click the large cookie and build your first supply. Select buildings and upgrades from the bakery menus, then compare their prices with the cookies per second (CPS) they produce. Click Golden Cookies before they disappear, and use the menus to manage buildings, upgrades, settings, and other game systems.
