Pico World Race
Pico World Race is an arcade racing game for PICO-8. Drive a supercar through circuits around the world and compete for the lead. The pixel-art graphics give the tracks and cars a retro look, and the game runs at 60 FPS. Steer through changing track sections, manage your speed, and race against the other drivers.
How to Play
In Pico World Race, guide your car around each circuit and finish ahead of seven opponents. The game has eight themed races. Watch your speed before corners so you can turn without losing control or drifting off the racing line, and collect tokens when you have the chance.
- Use Left and Right to keep the car on track through bends and direction changes.
- Accelerate on straight sections. Slow down before entering a corner.
- Brake or drift through tighter turns.
- Collect tokens when you can stay on the racing line.
Controls
Pico World Race uses three controls:
- Left / Right: Steer
- Z: Accelerate
- X: Brake or drift
Tokens and Progress
Each Pico World Race event has 20 tokens to collect. They give you another goal, but reaching them may take you off the racing line. Go for one when you can do so safely; a risky detour can cost you control or position. Keep watching the track as you decide whether a token is worth it. Your progress is saved, so you can return later without starting over.
Custom Races
Pico World Race added custom races in version 1.1, with thousands of randomly generated tracks alongside the original themed circuits. Version 1.2 improved the player car’s animation, added more variation to opponent cars, and updated their AI. The goal is still to steer around the course and finish ahead of the other drivers.
