Run 1 is a 3D platformer created by Joseph Cloutier and released in 2008. You steer a small runner through floating tunnels in space, choosing a safe route as it moves forward. The floor and walls connect, so you can run along a wall to get around a gap.

Run 1 is a good fit for players who like short levels, quick reactions, and spatial puzzles. The challenge comes from movement, not combat or complicated upgrades, so mistakes are easy to trace: you picked the wrong lane, jumped too late, or missed a safer route around the tunnel. If you enjoy platformers that change which way is “down,” give it a try. The controls are simple, but the shifting perspective keeps the levels challenging.

Moving Through Run 1

Run 1 moves the runner forward on its own. You watch the path and adjust your position as you go. The original game has 50 levels, and the layouts get harder as you progress: gaps, jumps, and less room to correct a move. Early levels give you time to learn the tunnel; later ones demand quicker reactions. Looking ahead helps, but you still have to make decisions on the move.

  • Move around gaps: Shift left or right to stay on solid ground. Check which lanes continue beyond the opening; the nearest clear section may lead to a dead end. If a gap blocks your lane, move early. A last-second correction leaves little room for error.
  • Use the walls: Touch a side wall to rotate the tunnel and change the runner’s orientation. The wall becomes a surface beneath your feet, offering another way around a floor opening. Check how the surfaces connect as the track turns. A wall can keep you moving when the direct route ends.
  • Time your jumps: Some gaps require a jump rather than a lane change. Watch the edge and jump early enough to clear it. Later sections move faster, leaving less time to recover from a late input, so watch for the next obstacle as you approach. A jump that clears one gap may not clear the next.

Wall Running

Run 1’s rotating tunnel shapes much of the experience. Its floor and walls connect, so you can change direction by running onto a side surface. When a gap blocks the route ahead, the wall may offer a safer way around. The camera angle takes some getting used to while the runner is moving, but the rule stays consistent: touch a side wall and the tunnel turns, bringing a new surface underfoot.

Wall-running changes how you choose a lane. You’re deciding which part of the tunnel will carry you past the next gap, not just steering left or right. Sometimes the direct route works; elsewhere, the side wall is the safer line. Choose before the opening is right in front of you. Run 1’s controls are straightforward. Later levels are harder because you have to read the tunnel.
